As Belle makes plans to save her baby, she meets a ghost from her past! Get a sneak peek of tonight’s Once Upon a Time, airing at 8pm ET|PT on ABC.
Last week’s Once Upon a Time was just as insane as we thought it was going to be. When speculating about the relationship between Zelena and Hades, perhaps it shouldn’t have surprised us that the two of them would bond over the hatred of their siblings. In a flashback, we saw Zelena gathering supplies to perform a time-traveling spell to prevent Cora from giving her up (i.e. innocence, represented by a baby; wisdom, represented by a brain). Enter Hades, who agreed to help Zelena collect what she needed. Who knew that in the course of executing their evil plans, Hades would fall in love with Zelena? But she totally rejected him. Apparently, Zelena couldn’t afford to be distracted from her revenge, even for true love.
But I think what was even more shocking was that Hades *still* loved Zelena. The reason the Underworld looked so much like Storybrooke, why Hades had Rumple create the portal to transport Baby Hood to the Underworld, why he tortured Cora (a miller’s daughter) to learn her birthday (April 15!)… it was all done for Zelena, all for Hades to prove that he loved her and would do anything for her happiness. Yet, when the two reunited in the present, Zelena again rejected Hades. It was so odd to see lovesick Hades, pining away after his unrequited love.
Speaking of babies, the reunion between Rumple and Belle was pretty devastating. Belle came to through the portal to protect Baby Hood and ended up learning she was pregnant, she couldn’t keep the baby because Rumple had bartered his second child away, AND that Rumple was the Dark One again. But what was probably more disturbing for Belle was struggling with the possibility that she loved the Beast in Rumple just as much as she loved Man.
It looks like tonight we’ll explore more of this conflict between Belle and Rumple. In “Her Handsome Hero” (written by Jerome Schwartz, directed by Romeo Tirone):
WHEN BELLE FINDS GASTON IN THE UNDERWORLD, SHE FACES A DECISION THAT CAN COST HER RUMPLESTILTSKIN— Belle turns to Rumplestiltskin with hope of finding a way to protect their child from Hades. However, they disagree over whether to use dark magic, as Belle forbids Rumplestiltskin from using his powers for evil. Meanwhile, Hades secretly meets with Gaston (guest-star Wes Brown) in the Underworld and encourages him to seek revenge on Rumplestiltskin. As the heroes try to find a way to defeat Hades, Emma has a terrifying nightmare that she realizes is beginning to come true. And in flashbacks, Belle and Gaston meet for the first time, but their blossoming romance comes to a halt on the eve of the Ogre wars and features. (via ABC)
I’m really looking forward to this twist of the Belle/Beast/Gaston relationship!
