RECAP: ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ 12×13 + Preview 12×14 “Odd Man Out”

March 17, 2016 By Rebekah Leave a Comment

Last Week’s Grey’s Anatomy, saw a shuffle in power, as one character’s fate became worrisome.
Whilst happiness and repair seemed to reign, I can’t help but worry that the bubble is soon to be popped; true to the series’ dark and twisty nature.

Last week’s episode “All Eyez On Me” centred around the notion of, not only repair  but progression, as a team of Grey Sloan surgeons, make a man with one leg, and half a pelvis walk – as guests at a Military hospital.

As the chance to practice the surgery is cut short with one attempt on a cadaver, worries are pushed aside as the call to action has me hoping that our characters; especially Meredith, can dive into their new lives, hopefully offering themselves a second chance.

With the series’ premise of teaching our surgeons outside the realm of medicine, the episode continues in helping our characters discover themselves once more.

As Meredith, Jackson, Callie, Bailey and Jo, struggle to assert themselves in the overwhelming regiment and hierarchy of the Military hospital, Ben and De Luca question the benefits of favouritism back on the home court.

Upon arriving at the hospital, the team meet Dr Miller, Captain Vaughn; and to his anger, Major Thorpe.

Whilst hot, and hopefully recurring as a character, Thorpe argues for advocation over his patient; Sergeant Carson. Not willing for him to become a guinea pig, Ortho-God Callie brings her ‘Thunder’ in camaraderie and support for her colleagues – despite their own cynicism over the surgery.

Back at Grey Sloan, Maggie and De Luca’s secrecy loses its allure, as De Luca starts to question the necessity of it. With her Sisters and her Father aware of their relationship, De Luca finds himself looking to Ben, to question whether his intern status would alter his optimism of outing his relationship with Maggie.

Elsewhere, a Cheerleading accident fills up the ER, and the power struggle is highlighted once more, in the midst of High School drama queens.

Back at the Military hospital, Sergeant Carson discusses his hope of having the life he missed whilst on tour in the Army, as Avery finds himself flirting with Captain Vaughn over his ‘technique’.

Back at the hospital, Alex continues to treat Cheerleader Maxine, whose BP ages with her stress over cheer hierarchy. Meanwhile, Ben provides a surgical consult on the Psych Ward, in which he’s forced into a solo procedure with a lack of a Scalpel or anything sharp – ironically absent in order to protect his dying patient.

Unaware of her Husband’s brazenness, Bailey is less confident, as she prays for support before Carson’s surgery. Using a clipboard to open up his patient, I worry if Ben’s confidence will doom him as the third trauma prodigy of the series. With his marriage and life, therefore; potentially at stake, will Bailey’s connection to the ill-fated George, ground him?

As Thorpe grows suspicious at the Military hospital; and Callie finds herself stuck at the point of no return, it is Meredith who provides counsel. Telling her that “it’s not always wrong when people push you”, Callie is forced to evolve and find a solution to save her patient.

As De Luca worries what an open relationship with Maggie would bring, in the light of Bailey and Ben’s relationship, Karev calls Pierce’s secrecy, High School nonsense. Taking action and announcing their relationship, De Luca seems regretful of the decision.

Elsewhere, as Edwards has to revert to her former squad captain self; to control the cheerleaders, Bailey is forced to remind Ben that she is the Chief in the hospital; suspending him for three days.
Pursuing love outside of the doomed walls of Grey Sloan, Meredith accepts a date from Major Thorpe, whose very presence outside of the hospital, may doom their relationship before it starts – remember the Vet; Finn?

Tonight, Meredith is forced to reevaluate her power stance, as Jo confronts her over her interference in her and Alex’s relationship.
