PREVIEW: ‘Downton Abbey’ Season 6, Episode Seven

February 14, 2016 By Funmbi Leave a Comment

Tonight, the Crawleys are off to the races! Get a sneak peek of Downton Abbey, airing at 9:00pm ET|PT on PBS Masterpiece.

OK, we need to talk about how last week’s Downton Abbey (Episode Six) ends. What in the world are we going to do about Thomas Barrow? And how did I reach a point where I feel more sympathetic to Thomas than I do to Mr. Carson? Here Thomas was trying to help young Andy learn how to read, and everyone downstairs misrepresented the situation. In fact, Mr. Carson accused Thomas of taking advantage of Andy (sexually). We ended the episode with Thomas crying alone in the dark, and frankly I didn’t blame him. This season, everyone is pushing him to find another job (including Lord Robert), and at Downton, he’s practically isolated. I’m just hoping Thomas doesn’t do something drastic out of depression or desperation.

In other news, it was nice to see Lord Robert on the mend, and clearly he was taking a backseat while the rest of the family handled things at the house. We saw Downton was opened up to the public for charity. Though it started a little rocky (especially when Lady Violet lambasted Cora for replacing her as president of the village hospital), ultimately the visitors and family had fun.

In terms of romance, things heated up between Mary and Henry Talbot, culminating in the sweetest kiss in the rain. Bertie came to visit Edith at Downton and had a sweet meeting Marigold. And there was clearly something developing between Mrs. Patmore and Mr. Mason, despite Daisy being mean and awkwardly territorial.

And finally, returning to Mr. Carson, I was so over his (not so subtle) jabs at Mrs. Hughes’s housekeeping. Her meals weren’t good enough, the way she made the bed in the morning wasn’t good enough…ugh, I wanted to shake Carson!

What moments stood out most to you?

In tonight’s Episode Seven, written by Julian Fellowes and directed by David Evans:

A car race gives Mary flashbacks. Mrs. Patmore opens for business. Mrs. Hughes tricks Carson. Things get serious for Edith. Robert gets a surprise gift. (via PBS)

The family face a shocking turn of events at Brooklands racetrack while Molesley and Daisy are put to the test. (via IMDB)

What’s this about Mary having flashbacks while at the racetrack… like Matthew dying flashbacks? Check out this behind-the-scenes video of Matthew Goode (who plays Mr. Talbot) and David Evans talking about filming the racing scenes and getting inspiration from the Fast and the Furious films!

Whoa! Maybe it isn’t so shocking that all the action triggers Mary’s unease…

You can go HERE to watch another clip where Henry invites Mary and the family to come see him race at Brooklands, while downstairs, Daisy and Mr. Molesley talk about getting ready for their exam.

Take a look at 8+ images from the upcoming show, which show us more of Mary and Henry, Remember to tune to PBS at 9:00pm ET|PT for the new Downton Abbey and come live tweet while we watch (@WeSoNerdy)!
