Ever since NBC announced The Wiz Live would be their next live-action television musical, we’ve been VERY excited about the upcoming show!
This summer, several announcements were made about the ensemble cast, including David Alan Grier as the Cowardly Lion, Ne-Yo as the Tin Man, Elijah Kelley as the Scarecrow, and rising star Shanice Williams as Dorothy.
Well earlier this week, NBC gave us our very first look at Shanice, David, Elijah, and Ne-Yo in costume! Check out the photos below as well as a behind-the-scenes video of the photo shoot:
As the video mentions, other cast members include include Stephanie Mills playing Auntie Em, Queen Latifah as the Wiz, Mary J. Blige as Evillene (the Wicked Witch of the West), Uzo Aduba as Glinda (the Good Witch of the South), Amber Riley as Addaperle (the Good Witch of the North), and Common playing the Bouncer (gatekeeper of the entrance to Emerald City). Honestly, my reaction was very much like Shanice’s…OMG! This cast is so incredibly talented and you can already tell we’re going to have a great time easing on down that yellow brick road! I can’t wait to see the other characters in costume too!
