PHOTOS: Preview Tonight’s ‘Blindspot’ Season 1, Episode 5 “Split the Law”

October 19, 2015 By Funmbi Leave a Comment

Jane tries to learn more about her new identity by meeting Weller’s family. Meanwhile, the FBI conflicts with the CIA over the best way to handle a hostage situation. Get a sneak peek of tonight’s Blindspot, airing at 10:00pm ET|PT on NBC.

By the end of last week’s Blindspot, we learned that the truth of Jane’s identity was still in contention.

DNA had confirmed that Jane was Taylor Shaw, and in “Bone May Rot“, Weller joined her during a meeting with Dr. Borden. He was able to help Jane start learning about her life prior to abduction. Weller told Jane about her childhood—her mother (Emma Shaw, who was now deceased), as well as their friendship as kids.

Our tattoo/terrorist attack of the week was actually deciphered by Patterson’s cutie boyfriend, David. The oak and maple leaf tattoo also reflected the Centers of Disease Control (CDC) logo (headquarters located at the corner of Oak and Maple). Weller’s team (with Jane in tow) arrived at the CDC to inspect the premises and met with Rebecca Fine, deputy director of epidemiology, and the military liaison, Frank Surrey. Things got interesting when Jane entered the decontamination unit. As the UV light came on, a series of tattoos lit up on her face. These alphanumeric codes coincided with the system the CDC used to categorize sample vials of an infectious diseases (like ebola and SARS!). When Weller and Jane were taken to the lab to check on the specimens, it was discovered that every single one was missing.

As Weller and Jane were in the lab, the CDC went into a two-hour lockdown, trapping them in place. Weller was pretty antsy, but Jane was able to help calm him down by asking about the night she went missing. He was there babysitting her while Jane’s mom was at work. After Jane went to sleep, Weller went to check on her, but she was gone. There were no signs of forced entry…it was like she vanished. Weller also revealed that his dad was named a suspect. There wasn’t any physical evidence, but he lied about his alibi. Interestingly, Jane had a memory of that night and being led away by a man.

We eventually learned that Rebecca triggered the false lock-down and was now missing. It turned out Rebecca had been running a secret lab in Brooklyn and nine disease outbreaks all over the the world corresponded with the missing vials and Rebecca’s own travels…even the West African ebola outbreak of 2014! She had one more virus left, the deadlier cousin of ebola with no known curse. There was a potential for thousands of casualties…but where was it? Weller and his team were able to track down Rebecca and her husband, who were driving out of town. When confronted by the police, she shot her husband and then killed herself.

Beforehand, Rebecca had gone to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal. Weller and company rushed to the pier and had the premises evacuated. He and Jane located a bag that was out of place and confirmed that it was Rebecca who put it there. Patterson was able to guide them through the process of containing the bag (a la MacGyver) until the HAZMAT team could arrive. Lucky for them, the tent was air-tight enough to hold the virus.

Frank arrived the the CDC HAZMAT team to help contain the situation. He expressed feeling surprised that Rebecca would do all this, but it was all a ruse. Frank was working with Rebecca! He had ripped his HAZMAT suit to infect himself with the disease and then travel around the world spreading it. Rebecca and Frank believed diseases were never meant to be cured. As a result, the planet was overpopulated, which would eventually lead to famine, drought, and massive poverty. To save earth (and humanity), diseases needed to spread and the human population controlled. Weller and Frank fought, and with Jane’s help, the doctor was subdued. Everything was going to be OK.

In other developments, Mayfair’s CIA contact, Tom Carter, came to see her and demanded to meet Jane. If there was any information about Operation Daylight, there was a big risk. Mayfair asked Carter to leave, but he warned that  when things fell apart, she would be at fault.

Finally, Peterson ran an isotope test on Jane’s tooth to confirm her identity, but there was a discrepancy. According to the new test, Jane was born in Sub-Saharan Africa. (WHATTTTT???) So was she Taylor Shaw?

In tonight’s episode “Split the Law”, written by Brendan Gall and directed by Mark Pellington, with guest stars Jordana Spiro, Logan Schuyler Smith and Jay O. Sanders:

THE FBI AND CIA BUTT HEADS AFTER A HOSTAGE CRISIS GOES BAD—After a seemingly straightforward hostage situation turns out to have deeper international implications, the CIA and FBI find themselves racing against each other to apprehend the same criminal with a dark history. Carter (guest star Michael Gaston) expresses concern about Jane’s (Jaimie Alexander) trustworthiness, causing friction with Mayfair (Marianne Jean-Baptiste) and testing Reade’s (Rob Brown) loyalty to the team. Meeting Weller’s (Sullivan Stapleton) family proves overwhelming for Jane as she grapples with her identity. (via NBC)

Obviously there’s A LOT going on in tonight’s show, particularly with the CIA (maybe) trying to kill Jane for what she may/may not know about Operation Daylight. However, my main focus is on Jane meeting Weller’s sister and nephew! I wonder if being around Weller’s family will trigger any additional memories.

Check out 20+ photo stills from “Split the Law”, where we see the hostage situation, the clashing between Mayfair and Carter, and Jane’s visit with the Wellers for dinner.

Entertainment Weekly also has a clip from the episode featuring a disagreement between Mayfair and Weller regarding what to do about the isotope test on Jane’s tooth. He’s convinced that Jane’s DNA tells the real story, which is ironclad. Click on the screenshot below to watch:

I mean, I don’t know about you, but I still choose to believe that Jane is really Taylor Shaw, despite the new evidence from her teeth. What do you think?
