FIRST LOOK: ‘Spotlight’ Starring Michael Keaton & Mark Ruffalo, Coming November 2015

Watch the first official trailer for investigative thriller Spotlight, based on the real-life story of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Boston Globe investigation into one of the biggest crime stories in modern times.

Open Road Films recently released the first official trailer for their upcoming film Spotlight. Academy Award-nominee Thomas McCarthy directs Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Liev Schrieber, Brian D’Arcy James, Stanley Tucci, and Billy Crudup in this tense investigative thriller, which traces the steps to one of the biggest crime stories in modern times.

Spotlight tells the story of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Boston Globe investigation that would eventually cause a crisis in one of the world’s oldest and most trusted institutions, the Catholic Church.

Check out the official trailer below, which takes us inside the beginnings of the “Spotlight” team’s investigations into Catholic Archdiocese of Boston and the roadblocks the reporters face when trying to research allegations of abuse within the Church. Ultimately, they uncover an international scandal with wide ramifications:

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tom McCarthy discusses his motivations behind wanting to make this film:

I felt like because of my background, having grown up Irish-Catholic, having gone to school in Boston, having a lot of family in the Boston area, I just felt like maybe I was the right person to tell the story because I also have a lot of compassion for the people who not only were effected but are still involved with the Church. A lot of good people are involved with the Catholic Church, doing good things. So I think I had to approach this story with a sense of compassion for everybody involved.
