In April 2014, production began in New Orleans for the Lionsgate action comedy film American Ultra. The film was directed by Nima Nourizadeh and written by Max Landis and stars Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Topher Grace, Tony Hale, John Leguizamo, Bill Pullman, Connie Britton, and Walton Goggins. Now that the Lionsgate/PalmStar/Likely Story/Circle of Confusion production is complete and the release date of August 21, 2015 has been set, promotion for American Ultra is in full force.
American Ultra is a fast-paced action comedy about Mike (Eisenberg), a seemingly hapless and unmotivated stoner whose small-town life with his live-in girlfriend, Phoebe (Stewart), is suddenly turned upside down. Unbeknownst to him, Mike is actually a highly trained, lethal sleeper agent. In the blink of an eye, as his secret past comes back to haunt him, Mike is thrust into the middle of a deadly government operation and is forced to summon his inner action-hero in order to survive. I am SO ready for American Ultra! Any film that has a story line around the activation of a sleeper agent will have me in the theater on opening day. Now this film adds some slacker stoners to the mix and I wish I could see this film NOW. But alas, I’ll impatiently wait until August 21, 2015.
