Coldplay and the cast of Game of Thrones came together to create Game of Thrones: The Musical for Red Nose Day, a campaign dedicated to raising money for children and young people of the world living in poverty.
Red Nose Day is a biennial telethon held in March under British charity Comic Relief. Comic Relief was founded in 1985 when Richard Curtis and Lenny Henry wanted to raise awareness and funds for the famine in Ethiopia. Red Nose Day first telethon began when Lenny Henry traveled to Ethiopia in February 1988 along with 150 celebrities. To this day Red Nose Day continues to raise millions each year for children and young people living in poverty. This is done by making people laugh, having fun, and often while wearing foam red noses.
The inaugural Red Nose Day was held in the United States on May 21, 2015 and the day’s events were closed off with a three-hour TV special on NBC. You can watch the highlights for the NBC Red Nose Day TV special here. One of the most talked about events that occurred for Red Nose Day was Coldplay’s hilarious Game of Thrones: The Musical.
Coldplay members Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, and Will Champion gathered many of the Game of Thrones cast members (former and current) to create a comedy sketch of pure gold; a documentary for the making of Game of Thrones: The Musical for Red Nose Day. The hilarious faux documentary was narrated by Liam Neeson and featured Game of Thrones cast members Mark Addy, Diana Rigg, Emilia Clarke, Iwan Rheon, Kit Harington, Alfie Allen, John Bradley, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Rose Leslie, Charlotte Hope, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Peter Dinklage.
