It’s D-Day—Baby Villanueva-Solano arrives tonight! Preview Jane The Virgin‘s season finale with video and photo sneak peeks. “Chapter Twenty-Two” airs at 9:00pm ET|PT on The CW.
Last week’s Jane The Virgin (“Chapter Twenty-One“) featured Jane (Gina Rodriguez)getting ready to attend her five-year high school reunion. Though she was excited before, Jane wasn’t sure that she wanted to face her old nemesis (Stephanie Kovakovitch, Mariah Buzolin)…plus she didn’t think she was very accomplished (two break-ups, unemployed, and pregnant…eeep!). But with encouragement from Xo (Andrea Navedo) and her bestie Lina (Diane Guerrero), Jane decided to go and enjoy the evening.
Jane also finally told Rafael (Justin Baldoni) that she wanted primary custody of the baby…at the same time he wanted to discuss getting back together. Rafael realized that he couldn’t be happy without her. However, Jane had more important things on her mind. The baby wouldn’t be safe at the hotel with Luisa (Yara Martinez), Petra (Yael Grobglas), and Magda (Priscilla Barnes) running around. Rafael tried to convince Jane otherwise…he even begged, but she remained firm.
Meanwhile, Petra had hatched a new plan to get back together with Rafael. When he told her about Jane’s request for full custody of the baby, she appealed directly to Jane. Petra promised that she’d never harm the baby…she also confessed to feeling jealous of Jane when Rafael moved on with her. Petra asked that Jane not punish him for her mistake.
Later on at the reunion, Jane had trouble with oversharing about the baby and her relationship situation. She thought things were changing when her high school crush Alex Mendez (Michael Galante) chatted with her. But when Alex saw that Jane was pregnant, he practically ran away. After Jane’s speech (the real one, not the one where she raged at her former classmates and her water broke), she ran into Stephanie KovakoBitch. Stephanie wasn’t very kind (and even confessed to sabotaging Jane’s Junior Prom date), but Jane definitely learned a lesson about dealing with mean girls—use their vulnerabilities against them.
Jane turned around and used the same tactic on Petra…Rafael was her vulnerability. They came up with a way to trap Petra by letting her believe that if there was a way to get Magda out of the hotel and assuage Jane’s fears about the baby being with Rafael, Petra could have another chance with Rafael. She totally bought it and asked her mother to confess to pushing Abuelita Alba (Ivonne Coll) down the stairs…which Magda did and was arrested.
Xo and Rogelio (Jaime Camil) began rehearsals for their Las Vegas show. They were having difficulty negotiating their new friendship; however, things turned around when Xo realized Rogelio was scared of heights (he was freaking out while standing on the hydraulic lift), and she took the heat from the show’s director by requesting they phase that portion out of the performance. Maybe their friendship could work!
Finally, Jane had been getting closer to Michael (Brett Dier). He invited her to join him at a ceremony where’d he’d receive a distinguished service award for exposing Sin Rostro. They spent that evening chatting about Jane’s reunion, her nesting and fears, his difficulties at work, etc. (*sidenote* It was so adorable!) With Michael’s help, Jane realized she needed to make a new plan that gave her realistic goals and time to achieve them. She decided she would go to grad school for writing. Jane also ultimately decided that a friendship with Rafael really would have been better than a romance. And in the end, while Rafael was trying to reconnect with Jane, she and Michael were already heading down that path…
In tonight’s season 1 finale episode (“Chapter Twenty-Two”) written by Josh Reims and Jennie Snyder Urman and directed by Zetna Fuentes:
SHE’S HAVING A BABY!—After having false labor, Jane insists that Xo and Rogelio go to Las Vegas to perform their show, but once they are gone the labor turns very real. Xo does everything she can to get back to help Jane, but ends up making Rogelio feel like he’s not part of the family. The truth about Michael and Rafael’s feelings for each other, and Jane, are put aside to help make Jane’s labor easier. With the good news on the birth of Jane’s baby, Alba is excited to tell her special friend. Meanwhile, Petra learns some very important information that concerns Rafael, leaving her to decide if she should tell him. (via The CW)
