The Originals is back on January 29th at 9|8c. Get ready for its return with an exciting new promo!

With the convenient timing of revealing Cami’s darker, and less level headed past; alongside a throat slitting, make-out, session with Klaus, the promo for the new year opener of The Originals, suggests that Cami is far from dead.

An angered Klaus seeks immediate retribution for presumably, what happened to Cami, by seeking out Aurora; whose mental state has since escalated to Batshit crazy.

Whilst Cami’s fate seems unknown; the lack of a burial in the promo trailer suggests that whilst Klaus duels it out with Aurora, the tropic tendency for plot twists will rise again. With hope still alight for this ship; praying that Leah Pipes will stick around, the attempt to seal the Original Family away forever, continues amidst the sound of our hearts breaking.

The midseason finale itself, centred around one of Claire Holt’s many returns to the series as Rebekah Mikaelson.
Somehow salvaged from the ocean floor, Rebekah’s return is cut short with the plaguing of a curse; that sees everyone safer with a dagger in her heart once more.

Distancing myself from the emotional turmoil of welcoming this perpetually absent character home again, the episode finds poignancy in Cami and Klaus’ plight to save Kinney from committing suicide.

His life ruined due to Lucien’s compulsion; Cami’s fate is far from sealed as Klaus reaffirms the significance of her character – through Kinney. Aside from being the light in Klaus’ life, he tells Kinney of the fragile fighter, whose courage and perseverance is a necessity in this world. Drawing out the good in Klaus, a point was made that Cami; whose relevance is argued by fans, matters.

Hoping she is not dead, any segue from her good nature will hopefully serve to cement her character’s significance within the show.

With Aurora’s flare for the dramatic more off-putting than villainous, could Cami’s darker side be revived in time for revenge upon the presumed villain? as well as, allow Cami to develop into someone who can take care of herself?

Whilst strength has always resided in her ability to mentor an immortal, and deal with the loss of her Family – mentally saving her from being sired to Aurora – it’s about damn time Leah Pipes’ character is elevated; rather than dismissed.

Tired of seeing Klaus bed women in order to serve his plans, it’s time that he sees a love that isn’t lost to the creation of a spin off series.

Whilst Claroline may well return with magical baby play dates, an immortal Camille, may be the breath of fresh air needed to refocus Klaus on the problem at hand.

In other shipping news, Jackson becomes less of a threat; and more relevant in the new found chemistry between him and Freya. Quite happy to dwell in the Bayou – as Werewolves lose narrative this season – Jackson needs to remain tied to the Original Family; whilst allowing Hayley and Elijah to reunite.

Meanwhile, Finn’s presence is brought to the forefront. A threat to both his family and leverage against Vincent; the Original family’s worst enemy seemingly begins to form.

More so, as the promo for the new episode shows a darker side of Vincent, we are reminded that the revived witch; and new regent, has been both Family, Friend and now, Foe, to the Original family. The promo suggests that Vincent embraces dark magic to help Tristan – whose goals are not too dissimilar to his own – as the Stricts presumably attempt to steal Rebekah’s body once more.

With Davina’s role as regent dismissed, albeit her hatred of Klaus far from dimmed, will she return as the unlikely aid?

Often wondering how these Vamps get things done before sundown, and still have the time, and the will, to celebrate Christmas; The Originals returns January 29th, offering only a vague idea of what’s going on in the meantime.

What do you think Cami’s fate will be?
