REVIEW and GIVEAWAY: OwlCrate Subscription Box–4 STARS

April 25, 2015 By T.J. 1 Comment

4 star rating for the OwlCrate subscription box that truly brought “all the feels” with its April 2015 box.

OwlCrate is a subscription box service that successfully brings magical young adult goodness and glories to your life each month. OwlCrate was started by book geeks Korrina and Robert of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. As they state on their website, “OwlCrate was created to share the joy of reading with the world. We believe in the importance of literature, and the magic of the written word. Stories help to expand our minds, expose us to new experiences, and show us that we’re not alone. But we also know that reading can often feel like a solitary activity, and we wanted a way to bring book nerds together. By sharing the fun of unboxing your OwlCrates, as well as reading each month’s chosen novel along with other members, we hope you find a safe and happy place among our community.”

Luckily, I was able to partake in April 2015 “all the feels” OwlCrate and was quite pleased with my haul. Enclosed in this month subscription box were the following items:

  •  The Fault in Our Stars “Okay Okay” inspired pendant necklace from 4Ever Always Designs
  • Cotton tote bag from amazing Bookworm Boutique
  • Soy candle created by From The Page
    • The scent is Love Spell (fusion of citrus, cherry blossom, hydrangea, apple and peach; with a hint of blondewood). (via From The Page)
  • Everything that Makes You by Moriah McStay (Release Date: on 3/17/205; Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books an imprint of HarperCollins) along with a bookmark, sticker, and signed bookplate

April 2015 OwlCrate Haul

OwlCrate has a different theme each month for their subscription box and you can sign up for the 1, 3, or 6 month plan. The month-to-month subscription price is $29.99, however if you pay up front for 3 or 6 months a discount is applied to the final cost. Currently shipping for the subscription box each month is $6.99 for the US, to Canada it is $10.59, and everywhere else it is $19.99. Depending on your location and service you have with your credit card and/or bank you might need to pay an international processing fee.

For some, the concept of dropping around $40 each month for the OwlCrate, shipping, possible international processing fee, and tax can be a bit hard on the pocket. Which is understandable, but know that the book(s) within your OwlCrate are published a maximum of 45 days prior to the ship date.  Plus you might be introduced to a series of companies that can help show and increase your fan flailing for the books you love or will come to love.

I gave the OwlCrate 4 out of 5 stars because I was truly excited about the concept of OwlCrate and enjoyed the haul that I received for April 2015. I love that one is encouraged to share the unboxing of their OwlCrate via their social media platforms. However, it was disappointing that the social media information for the companies whose items were in the subscription box wasn’t provided. I know we live in an age of the Internet and this is easily obtained, but as much as OwlCrate would like us to share their handle and hashtag, I would hope they would want the same for those who are included in their OwlCrate for the month and make it seamless for their subscribers to do so.

To share a bit of goodness with our readers I am giving you the chance to win the “Okay Okay” pendant necklace from 4Ever Always Designs that was included in the “all the feels” April 2015 OwlCrate subscription box. Entry is open to all, including international residents. Good luck!
