Stephenie Meyer Announces Top 6 ‘Twilight Stories’ Director’s Pitches Moving to Short Film Phase

April 7, 2015 By Funmbi 2 Comments

Stephenie Meyer reveals the six director’s pitches selected by the “Twilight Storytellers” panel to execute their short films! Stephanie also announces the #TwilightFan contest where you can enter to be a Fan Correspondent to one of the short-film sets.

Fellow Twi-fans, we’ve just made a giant leap towards being able to see the finish products of the “Twilight Storytellers –New Creative Voices of The Twilight Saga” campaign!

Last month, the illustrious panel of judges narrowed down the director pitch submissions to their top 30, and then invited fans to help decide who would make it to the next round! Well, last week, Stephenie Meyer (in a statement) announced the six emerging female directors and the six stories/screenplays that would move on to the Short Film production phase:

When we first began discussing ideas for “The Storytellers — New Voices of The Twilight Saga,” we expected that we would see great things; I knew that both within the Twilight fandom and within the female filmmaking community there was great talent. In reality, the incredible offering of creativity and skill that we’ve seen has exceeded all our expectations, from the screenplay outlines to the screenplays themselves and now the Directors’ pitches. We had an extremely difficult task narrowing the choices down to just five directors — the task actually turned out to be impossible. We were not able to narrow it down to five finalists. We had to go with SIX.

I’m thrilled to announce our six winning Directors for “The Storytellers — New Voices of The Twilight Saga” presented by Volvo Cars. Here they are (in no particular order):

-Kailey & Sam Spear for “The Mary Alice Brandon File”
-Maja Fernqvist for “Consumed”
-Lindsey Hancock Williamson for “Turncoats”
-Amanda Tasse for “Sunrise”
-Nicole Eckenroad for “The Groundskeeper”
-Yulin Kuang for “We’ve Met Before”

Congratulations to each of you! It has been amazing to see your fantastic pitches and hear the excitement you have for visually retelling these stories. All of us involved in this contest, both judges and fans, cannot wait to see your realized visions.

Lionsgate shared this video of each of the directors introducing themselves and their vision for what their final “Twilight Stories” short film will look like:

Many CONGRATS to each of the winners! I can imagine how great all the director’s pitches were since the panel ended up choosing SIX instead of the initially expected five. Now these six directors will each receive up to $50,000 to help create their 5 to 10 minute short film.

Yet, according to Stephenie, it’s not necessarily over if your pitch wasn’t selected:

For those of you who were not chosen, please know that it was a bitter thing to have to pass on your pitches. There were so many fascinating viewpoints we badly wanted to experience in their final form. We would like to encourage you to participate as a Wild Card entry, and show us your vision. You could still win the big prize. To paraphrase Principal Skinner, “Prove us wrong, kids. Prove us wrong.”

So there’s still the possibility of entering the “Twilight Storytellers” competition! All other female filmmakers can enter a short film as a Wildcard submission based on one of the winning characters from the voting stage.  The judges will evaluate all eligible Wildcard submissions and choose one winner.

Afterwards, the Wildcard winner and the previous six winning directors’ short films will be evaluated by the judges in consideration for the Grand Prize ($100,000, a chance to shadow a director, and an all-new 2015 Volvo XC90; each runner-up will win $5000, along with other prizes.)

With that said, those of us who didn’t submit a screenplay or director’s pitch won’t be left out of “The Storytellers” contest either, particularly since this campaign is all about the fans!

Stephenie also announced a new contest where we can enter to win a chance to be a Fan Correspondent to one of the short film sets. All you have to do is film a 15 to 60 second YouTube video (OR enter via Twitter or Instagram with the #TwilightFan tag) explaining why you’d be the perfect Fan Correspondent. You have until April 13, 2015 to enter so go HERE for more details and to submit your video!
