VIDEO: Synopsis & Sneak Peek of ‘Outlander’ Mid-Season Premiere “The Reckoning”

April 1, 2015 By Funmbi 3 Comments

Get a recap of Outlander episode 108 “Both Sides Now” and preview the mid-season premiere “The Reckoning” with the official synopsis and video/photo sneak peeks. The new show airs Saturday, April 4 at 9:00pm ET|PT on STARZ.

Sassenachs, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the end of Droughtlander and Outlander‘s upcoming mid-season premiere episode than with a little recap and some sneak peeks!

If you’ll recall, the last time we were in Scotland, our favorite characters (in the past and present) were facing some serious attacks. Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire were still in the honeymoon phase and enjoy all the pleasures that come with it. While having a picnic, an arrow flies through the air and lands next to them. Jamie instinctually dove to protect Claire, but it turned out there was no harm intended—Hugh Munro (Simon Meacock), a friend of Jamie’s, came to tell him that there was a former British officer (Horrocks), who could testify that Jamie did not kill a soldier while escaping Ft. William. If this was the case, Jamie would no longer be a wanted man and could go home to Lallybroch with his new wife. Hugh also gave Claire a little wedding gift…a dragonfly in amber (FORESHADOW!!!).

Later on in the evening, while around the fire with the other MacKenzies and exchanging stories, their camp is attacked by the men from the Grant clan, attempting to swipe the rents the MacKenzies have collected. Ned Gowan (Bill Paterson), wielding a gun a pistol, was able to chase the Grants away. Despite the scare, the MacKenzies were feeling good. It could have been worse.

The following day, after Claire had a Highland self-defense lesson that any Sassenach would benefit from, she and Jamie went away from the group for some sexy times fun…as they already said, their attraction to one another was intense and not at all usual (*swoons*). However, they were interrupted by two Red Coats who wanted to use Claire for a bit of their own fun. While one of them was getting ready to rape her, Claire was able to feign enough calm to stab him in the back with her dagger…like Angus (Stephen Walters) had taught her. Jamie was then able to overpower the other Red Coat, and get Claire away. As Claire was recovering from the shock, she realized that she could no longer afford to be distracted. She had to get back to Craigh na Dun as soon as possible.

Back in 1945, six weeks had passed and Frank (Tobias Menzies) was still looking for Claire. The police were convinced that she had left of her own free will to run off with her Scottish lover, but Frank couldn’t believe it. While drowning his sorrows at a pub, he was approached by a woman who said she had information about the Highlander’s whereabouts and to meet her near a cobbler shop later that night. The woman led him to the location, where two men laid in wait to attack Frank. It was all a set-up to get the £1500 reward. But Frank was ready and practically beat them to death (it was seriously scary). Reverend Wakefield (James Fleet) encouraged Frank to go back to Oxford and let go of Claire. Even when Mrs. Graham (Tracey Wilkinson) tried to tell him that Claire probably went through the stones, Frank decided to leave Inverness. As he drove out of town, something told him to go to Craigh na Dun.

And here is where past and present overlapped…both Claire and Frank were at the Stones, running uphill, calling for one another. They might have ever heard one another (in fact, I definitely think this was the case). In any event, before Claire could go back through the Stones, Red Coats seized her and took her back to Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies). In 1945, Frank descended the hill and continued back to Oxford.

Back at Ft. William, Claire tried to convince Black Jack that she was a double-agent working for the Duke of Sandringham…but BJR was able to trick by asking about the Duke’s wife…but he wasn’t married. Black Jack tied Claire up, stripped her dress, laid her across the table, and seemed to be prepared to rape her. But then the window flew open, and Jamie sat on the ledge with his pistol in hand “I’ll thank you to take your hands off my wife.”

And here we are six-ish months later, ready to see where the chips fall. As promised, the mid-season premiere takes us back in time a bit to observe Jamie’s perspective of Claire’s disappearance and eventually making his way to Ft. William to save her from BJR.

In the upcoming premiere episode, “The Reckoning,” written by Matthew B. Roberts and directed by Richard Clark:

Jamie and the Highlanders rescue Claire from Black Jack Randall. Back at the castle, politics threaten to tear Clan MacKenzie apart and Jamie’s scorned lover, Laoghaire, attempts to win him back. (via STARZ)

Take a look at several clips from the upcoming show! In the first video, Jamie finds out from Willie (Finn Den Hertog) that Claire has been taken by Red Coats. He’s appropriately concerned…

STARZ also shared*** this three minute sneak peek that features Jamie arriving at Ft. William with Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) and the MacKenzies in tow, disarming Red Coats as he ascends the tower to get to Claire:

Goodness, that still gives me shivers. And Black Jack’s maniacal laughing the the background surely doesn’t help the situation! I wonder how this fits in with the one-minute sneak peek of Episode 109 that we got back in January…

Thanks to the the official synopsis and images from Saturday’s show, we know that, after escaping Ft. William, Jamie, Claire, and the others make their way back to Castle Leoch and reveal their marriage to the MacKenzie clan.

As you’ll see from the photos (below), Laoghaire (Nell Hudson) is NOT pleased, and thanks to another sneak peek from STARZ, we get a glimpse of Laoghaire confronting Jamie about his new marriage:

Nope, not pleased at all…I almost feel bad for her, but that’s another story 😉

Remember to tune into STARZ at 9:00pm ET|PT this Saturday, April 4 to (FINALLY) watch Outlander‘s Season 1B premiere. I’ll be live tweeting, so join me over on twitter so we can break our Droughtlander together!
