So…is Derek cheating??? MerDer finally have it out in tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy, “With or Without You”. Watch a sneak peek of the show airing at 8:00pm ET|PT on ABC.
Last week’s Grey’s Anatomy (“Don’t Dream It’s Over) began with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) calling Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) phone only to have a mysterious woman pick up the call and then hang up. Mer continued to call the number, but it went straight to voicemail. She went to Karev (Justin Chambers), Maggie (Kelly McCreary), and Callie (Sara Ramirez) for advice—her people!!!—both were adamant that Derek wasn’t cheating and providing plausible excuses. But was Mer convinced…especially since she’d been Der’s other woman?
Elsewhere, in the medical case of the week, a man and his pregnant wife were injured when a car crashed into their home. The husband eventually survived, but, unfortunately, the woman died of internal bleeding. Arizona (Jessica Capshaw), Karev, and the team were able to deliver and revive the baby, though it was particularly difficult for Jo (Camilla Luddington).
The man driving the car (Martin, Dan Lauria) was agitated when he arrived at the hospital and struck Maggie and knocked her to the ground. We eventually learned from his wife that Martin suffered from Alzheimer’s and hadn’t realized what he’d done. Of course, this case was meaningful for Chief (James Pickens Jr.) and Mer because of Adele’s and Ellis’ Alzheimer’s. Maggie was very critical of Martin’s wife and her inability to care for him…until she found out Adele also suffered from the disease. Chief finally told her about Ellis’ early-onset Alzheimer’s, but Maggie learned when she was 12 that she had the genetic predisposition for the disease. This led to a very sweet moment between father and daughter.
After surgery, Martin seemed to have recovered his memories. It turned out that he didn’t have Alzheimer’s, but a build up of spinal fluid that caused him to exhibit similar symptoms. Martin, learning he was a murderer, didn’t want to have the surgery to prevent another build up.
In other relationship developments:
April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson (Jesse Williams) were back at work and trying to get back into the groove of their relationship; however, the aftermath of the miscarriage was getting in the way of rekindling sexy times. April was eager, while Jackson seemed to be holding back, worried that she was still fragile. April was able to convince him that she just wanted to go back to being herself…and the car-sex commenced 😉
I’ve been curious about that status of Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Amelia’s (Caterina Scorsone) relationship…but the physical part was definitely a go. At minimum there was intense, heavy petting, even though they were interrupted by work demands.
Callie had started online dating and after wrapping up a first date, had a pretty hot kiss…which Arizona happened to observe (AWKWARD). Did Callie need to apologize? Would it be possible for them to have a friendship? Well it turned out that Callie had dated the same woman (Heather Steak-knives) and she was super clingy. Callie and Arizona had a laugh and seemed to leave on good terms.
Even more interesting, the episode ended with Derek’s return to Seattle and he knew that when Mer called, another woman answered…then fade to black.
In tonight’s episode “With or Without You,” written by Elisabeth R. Finch, directed by our very own Bailey, Chandra Wilson:
Meredith, rattled by the latest events, tries to figure out what to do about Derek. Meanwhile, Owen is shocked when his mother is admitted to the hospital. (via ABC)
Take a look at this sneak peek from the upcoming show—Derek is back in Seattle, but things are not going well between him and Mer. Der tries to explain why another woman (apparently his research fellow) picked up his phone, but Mer isn’t convinced…
So, I’ve REALLY missed Derek, and the thought that he cheated and/or MerDer is breaking up makes me incredibly sad and nervous. They *have* to be OK! With that said, the trailer below isn’t inspiring much hope:
