GIVEAWAY & REVIEW: 4.5 Stars for ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1’ and Learn More About the DVD Sets

March 5, 2015 By T.J. 44 Comments

Enter our giveaways for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 DVD set and find out more about the exclusive DVD sets that are being released tomorrow, March 6, 2015.

My Film Rating: 4.5 Stars out of 5 Stars

When The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 was released on November 21, 2014 in North America I made sure to see it immediately. Even though I read The Hunger Games: Mockingjay written by Suzanne Collins the day the book was released, I was still afraid to be spoiled by others for this book-to-film adaptation. Just thinking back on my first viewing of the third film in The Hunger Games franchise gives me chills. The Hunger Games – Catching Fire might be my favorite book and film, but The Hunger Games: Mockingjay was the book that broke my heart and often brought tears to my eyes. And thankfully, the film brought up the same emotions and then some.

I’m alone in my home, lights off and I’m about to watch the DVD’s for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1. This was my first viewing of the film since it was released in the theater 4 months ago. And I’m glad to report that my in-home viewings delivered the same emotional response and excitement I had within the theater. Director Francis Lawrence was once again able to take the way my mind imagined Collins’ books and work with a team of amazing people to bring that beauty and destruction to life. Seeing Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) wake up (after being taken from the destroyed arena in the 75th Hunger Games) in District 13, the hidden (underground) district from Panem that is led by rebel leader, President Alma Coin (Julianne Moore) had my heart pound just as it did when I viewed the film in the movie theater.

Watching Katniss refused to be the “Mockingjay,” the symbol of the rebellion based on suggestions by Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman) was just as powerful on the small screen as it was on the big. But witnessing how the Capital had destroyed District 12 and used Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) in my home brought much more emotions while I was by myself than when I was in the theater. My brain and spirit I think were free to have that emotional break because others weren’t around. And even though I was fully aware of how the Peeta and Katniss reunion would play out, I was still shocked to see violence of the scene. I highly recommend you purchasing The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 DVD, you will not be disappointed.

There are 3 versions that are being sold beginning tomorrow, March 6, 2015. Here is a breakdown of what each DVD set contains:
