VIDEO: Preview Tonight’s ‘Sleepy Hollow’ Season 2 Finale “Tempus Fugit”

February 23, 2015 By Funmbi 1 Comment

Will 1781 Ichabod Crane believe what Abbie has to say about Team Witness? Preview the season 2 finale of Sleepy Hollow, “Tempus Fugit,” airing tonight at 9:00pm ET|PT on FOX.

Like many of you, I’m *still* reeling from the way last week’s Sleepy Hollow (“Awakening“) ended and the potential implications for Abbie, Ichabod, and history itself.

The episode began with Ichabod (Tom Mison) and Abbie (Nicole Beharie) at the library trying to search for some of the manuscripts that were in the Fenestella. Sure, they chose to destroy the chamber in order to save the survey team, but that didn’t mean they weren’t still lamenting the loss of all that information about the Witnesses. At that point, Ichabod started an interesting train of thought about how being a “man out of time” was actually an overdone literary trope…Dr. Who, the Connecticut Yankee, Marty McFly. However, he and Abbie agreed that their role as witnesses would have to supersede all other relationships and priorities.

Well, that promise was soon put to the test when we discovered that Henry was planning to use the town’s bell (cast from the same mold as the famous Liberty Bell) to trigger certain townsfolk’s latent witch-y genes. Henry (John Noble) was able to convince Katrina (Katia Winter) that this was in fact their fate, to become leaders of a new coven that would rise and come to dominate Sleepy Hollow.

Ichabod, Abbie, and Jenny (Lyndie Greenwood) planned to crack the town bell and damage its supernatural effects (similar to the way Ichabod cracked the Liberty Bell in the 1700s, under assignment from General Washington); however, their plan was thwarted when Captain Irving (who had fully crossed over to the dark side), Henry, and Katrina arrived. Dark Irving (Orlando Jones) and Jenny faced off—he wanted to know where his family was and she was determined to honor the promise she made to protect Irving’s family from him.

Meanwhile, Henry and Katrina had hidden the bell at Town Hall and were preparing to cast the spell that would bring forth their coven. Eventually, (after thinking Katrina might have killed Abbie by causing her truck to explode), Ichabod and Abbie were bound and trapped in Town Hall. Yet, as Katrina was casting the spell, IchAbbie was able to break loose and Abbie killed Henry with a single gun shot. With his dying words, Henry asked to be called by his given name (Jeremy) and encouraged Katrina to protect the bell. Ichabod (mistakingly) tried to comfort Katrina in her grief, but she was having none of it. SHE FREAKED OUT. Katrina blamed Ichabod as being the source of her sorrow and said that she regretted preserving his life, a mistake she would not make again.

Katrina started another spell and, as the wind tunnel descended, Abbie lunged for her and they were both gone…

…we immediately saw that Katrina had actually done a time-travelling spell to bring herself (and now Abbie) back to 1781. In the end, Abbie was arrested as a fugitive slave (OHMYGOODNESS) and thrown behind bars. However, she was able to make one final request to see Ichabod Crane, indicating she had information about the developments of the war.

And in that moment, my jaw hit the floor. I still cannot believe the Sleepy Hollow writers are going there. I didn’t see this coming, AT ALL. Now Abbie is the “man of out time,” and this development has triggered so many full circle moments. Abbie emerging from the woods and stumbling into the road, as Ichabod did. Abbie almost getting run over by a horse and carraige, as Ichabod almost got run over by a semi-trailer. Flashing to the Sleepy Hollow town sign, with that crow sitting on top of it, JUST LIKE EPISODE ONE!

But I have so many questions: why in the world would Abbie lunge after Katrina like that? Now that she’s back in 1781, I have serious concerns about Abbie’s wellbeing. I mean the first people she came across, asked for her “papers” and called her a “fugitive” slave. Come on! I think the circumstances Abbie has to face in 1781 are a bit more challenging and scary than Ichabod in 2014/2015.

If Katrina intends to let Ichabod die, does that mean Abbie needs to find a way to keep him alive? Will 1781 Ichabod even want anything to do with Abbie??? And finally, what (if anything) is going on in the present, now that Abbie and Katrina are gone?

In tonight’s season finale episode, “Tempus Fugit,” guest starring Timothy Busfield as Benjamin Franklin:

Season Two of the spellbinding series comes to a dramatic close, leaving Sleepy Hollow and its residents forever changed. Familiar faces will perish and a key relationship will implode beyond repair. (via FOX)

WOW, that synopsis is simultaneously vague and ominous, which only makes me even more scared/nervous/excited for tonight! FOX has been spoiling us all season long with several video sneak peeks per episode; however, they must really want to keep things under-wrap for tonight because no previews have been posted on YouTube! In fact, the only two video sneak peeks I’ve been able to find are two exclusives from TV Line and TV Guide, which you can watch by clicking on the two photos below.

In the first clip (via TV Line, click on the image below), Abbie and Ichabod meet again, but with a serious twists. Now she is behind bars, and Captain Crane has come to see her about what information she has regarding the war. He’s curious, but cautious, while Abbie intends to use what she knows about the Horseman to make a deal for her freedom:

In this second clip from the show (via TV Guide, click on the image below), Abbie is now free and investigating recent decapitations with Captain Crane. She knows that this is the work of the Horseman of Death, but Ichabod is finding it very difficult to believe that one man with a broadaxe could inflict this sort of damage. He’s extremely suspicious of Abbie’s intentions, but she’s trying to use all the information Ichabod has ever told her about the war and his mission from General Washington to convince him.

“The future is off the rails.”

Understatement! Of course we have to wonder about the consequences of Abbie and Katrina’s return to the 1781. Granted, Katrina cast the time-travelling spell with the intent of letting Ichabod die and remaining with her son… and according to Sleepy Hollow‘s official twitter account, we can expect a major character death:

Like I said, scared/nervous/excited. Check out these images from “Tempus Fugit” and make sure to tune into FOX at 9:00pm ET|PT for the season finale. You know I’ll be live tweeting, so come join me while we watch how the past unfolds!
