Happy Birthday, Bonnie Bennett! Get your sneak peek into tonight’s The Vampire Diaries airing on The CW at 8 PM (ET/PT).
It’s been a roller-coaster ride of emotions for me regarding season 6 of The Vampire Diaries. Between Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) being stuck in the 1994 prison world with (Cobra) Kai Parker (Chris Wood), which brought me great joy at times to last week when I was a hot mess watching Sheriff Liz Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre) die and come back to life in season 6, episode 12, “Prayer for the Dying.”
In “Prayer for the Dying” the focus was around the Gemini Coven’s Twin Merge and Caroline (Candice Accola) dealing with the consequences of feeding her terminally-ill mother with cancer her vampire blood. Caroline early on in the episode realized that her cancer patient, test subject Colin (Drew Stephenson) didn’t actually make a full recovery. Once the high of Caroline’s vampire blood began to wear off his cancer rapidly developed, he died, and went through transition to become a vampire. Now Colin was in massive amounts of pain as he could hear and feel his cancerous tumors growing. It was painful to see Colin grow through this and I’ll be the first to admit I was glad that Damon removed his heart and took him out of his misery.
With a good portion of the Scooby-Doo gang realizing this could be Liz’s fate the race was on to figure out how to help her. Damon after stopping Tyler (Michael Trevino) from attempting to kill (Sleeping Beauty) Kai came up with the plan to have Kai suck the magic aka vampire blood out of Liz’s body. This plan seemed like a brilliant way to stop Liz from having the same ending as Colin but sadly her body couldn’t take the experience. Liz went into heart failure and died. And I’ll admit watching her death scene had me all kinds of weepy and I was letting the world know. But all those who die on The Vampire Diaries can come back to life and that is exactly what happened for Liz. *flails*
Sadly, a death did occur in episode 12, “Prayer for the Dying.” Daddy Parker/Joshua Parker (Christopher Cousins) was destined to make the Twin Merge happen to save the Gemini Coven and prevent Kai from becoming its leader. He attempted to trick Luke (Chris Brochu) and Liv (Penelope Mitchell) into completing the ceremony only to be stopped by Tyler. Giving Luke the chance to breakaway and challenge Kai. In the end, Luke wasn’t stronger than Kai and died in his older sister Jo (Jodi Lyn O’Keefe) arms. Luke was willing to risk his life for Liv but also for Jo. I applaud his bravery and I will miss his annoying little behind. However, his sacrifice leads way to possible character development for Kai and maybe some continued Parker/Gemini Coven drama.
Tonight on The Vampire Diaries, season 6, episode 13, “The Day I Tried to Live,” that was directed by Pascal Verschooris, written by Chad Fiveash and James Stoteraux, and guest stars Tristin Mays as Sarah Salvatore:
Determined to celebrate Bonnie’s birthday, Elena (Nina Dobrev) convinces Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) that it’s what Bonnie would have wanted. After piecing the broken ascendant back together, Elena, Jeremy and Damon attempt to send Bonnie a message, but the situation turns dire when they make an unsettling discovery. Meanwhile, after uncovering Stefan’s (Paul Wesley) secret about his great-niece Sarah Salvatore, Enzo (Michael Malarkey) enlists a reluctant Matt (Zach Roerig) to help interfere with her life. Elsewhere, Stefan keeps a close eye on Caroline as she unconventionally attempts to cope with everything going on around her. Lastly, realizing it might be time to move on with his life, Jeremy contemplates leaving Mystic Falls for good. (via The CW Press Site)
My body is so ready for this episode because Bonnie is coming back!!! I know there will be plenty of sad moments as Bonnie celebrates her birthday alone in the 1994 prison world but it excites me to know the gang will attempt to bring her home.
Now let’s get a further peek into episode 13, “The Day I Tried to Live,” with the below two clips. In the first clip, Executive Producers Julie Plec and Caroline Dries give us an inside look into episode 13 where they discuss how Jeremy will have to “step-up and be the hero in this episode.” Along with telling (and showing) us that Kai has some new-found compassion after his merge with Luke and we see Tyler making attempts to stop Liv from trying to kill Kai. In the second clip, Damon wishes his Bon Bon a Happy Birthday prior to Elena coming in and them sharing a cupcake and giving Delena fans heart attacks with some Delena kissing.
I’m truly excited for “The Day I Tried to Live,” the emotional gut punch we surely will receive seeing Bonnie dealing with being alone and repeating the same day will be hard on the feels. However, it provides this Bonnie stan with hope that the story arc for our Bennett witch will be bountiful and filled with greatness.
