Get ready for Outlander‘s Christmas Day marathon with dialect coach, Carol Ann Crawford, as she introduces us to the many accents of Scotland.
One of the things I love most about Outlander is the show’s authenticity. It’s so easy for us, as an audience, to slide into the Scottish highlands in the mid-1700s. Outlander‘s cast, crew, and production have obviously put a lot of effort into making the characters and sets look as real as possible, which we appreciate!
Part of that preparation comes in the form of accents and dialects. Earlier this week, for “Outlander Offerings,” STARZ shared this behind-the-scenes interview with Carol Ann Crawford, Outlander‘s dialect coach. In the video, Carol Ann introduces us to the many accents of Scotland–the country may be small, but there’s a lot of variation across regions. For example, she discusses how Gaelic intonations infuse the Highland dialects, unlike in Glasgow, Inverness, and Edinburgh. And of course, this all plays into making sure that our favorite Outlander characters sound as they should. Check it out below:
