Disney will debut the new Frozen short “Frozen Fever” ahead of the live-action Cinderella movie, both coming to theaters March 13, 2015.
I’m a huge fan of Disney‘s live action remakes of our favorite fairy tales. I recently watched Maleficent for the first time, and thought Angelina Jolie was spectacular. I enjoyed seeing another side of the character we’ve known of so long as a villain–plus, I’m all for the girl power/girls saving girls twist.
We have several more of these reboots to look forward to. Besides Into the Woods, which comes out in a few weeks on Christmas Day (starring Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine), Disney‘s live action versions of The Jungle Book (starring Scarlett Johansson, Lupita Nyong’o, Idris Elba) and Cinderella will be coming out next year too!
In fact, Cinderella‘s official Facebook page just released new character posters (photographed by Annie Leibovitz). Lily James and Richard Madden look so romantic as (Cinder)Ella and Prince Charming! Cate Blanchett seems pretty menacing as Lady Tremaine, Cinderella’s mean-y step-mother. I’m not quite sure what to think of the step-sisters (Holiday Grainger and Sophie McShera), but those dresses are atrocious! And, of course, Helena Bonham Carter makes a lovely Fairy Godmother. As if that isn’t enough to get us excited for March, Disney also recently announced that a new Frozen animated short will debut ahead in front of Cinderella in theaters! According to Variety:
Walt Disney Animation is producing the short that brings the characters of Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf from “Frozen” back to the bigscreen. In “Frozen Fever,” it’s Anna’s birthday, and Elsa and Kristoff are determined to give her the best celebration ever, but Elsa’s icy powers may put more than just the party at risk. Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee co-directed “Frozen Fever,” which features a new original song by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez.
