My Take on ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 6 Premiere

October 3, 2014 By T.J. 5 Comments

As the recap of Season 5 played at the beginning of The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Premiere, my body was filled with excitement because I’ve been impatiently waiting 5 months for this episode. “Bamon” fanfiction got me through some days and watching Season 5 again and again got me through other moments, but nothing could quench my thirst like the actual premiere episode would.

I was with my fellow fans (and haters) on Twitter ready to live tweet the Season 6 Premiere, which begins at night in the woods of Mystic Falls, VA, where chivalry is apparently dead when you hear a noise and your lantern blows. I was hoping we would begin the episode learning about where Bonnie and Damon were, but that was too much to ask. Instead we learn that since Mystic Falls doesn’t have magic, Sheriff Forbes is mingling with the citizens of the town since the Scooby-Doo gang isn’t keeping her occupied and planning the mass murder of a bunch of Travelers. We hear the internal monologue of Elena rehashing what is going on with her life and others, with actual examples being shown.

What I’ve gathered in the first few minutes of the episode is Elena is Pre-Med, Alaric is a professor at Whitmore, Matt Donovan has joined a self-defense class in Mystic Falls and looks amazing while punching things, Jeremy is leaving a DNA sample in some random young ladies mouth, Stefan is in Savannah, GA getting his grease monkey on in a local garage, Caroline is bonding with her mother and trying to figure out how to drop the magical barrier from around the town, and Tyler is finally attending Whitmore. But most importantly (outside of finding out what is going on with “Bamon”) is seeing that all signs point to hallucination city, since Elena is getting her mix on with magical herbs.

Many of us saw the promos that showed that some “Delena” goodness or madness, depending on the person viewing, would occur in the premiere episode. And even though my OTP is “Bamon”, I can appreciate the hotness that is “Delena”. Yeah, they are toxic for each other, but damn they do look good while being bad for one another. We were given “Delena” moments a plenty, because Elena in her ineffective quest to properly grieve just couldn’t. And Luke who is suffering with survivors guilt and oh, the guilt of ensuring that Damon didn’t make it from the “Other Side”, is supplying Elena with the magical herbs to help her bring Damon to hallucination life and turn her into a bit of a murderous vampire.

What I took away from the “Delena” interactions in the premiere, is that “Delena” isn’t endgame. I think we will get a few more episodes where “Delena” will play out, but their time is coming to a close. Throughout Elena’s hallucinations her subconscious was telling her to “Move On!” and even though this is a struggle for her, Elena came to the point were she asked Alaric to compel her to forget that she loved Damon. I think we will get flashes and many moments to reminiscent their courtship, but it will end. And with the ending of “Delena” will “Bamon” popped off, I don’t know. I’m here to enjoy the ride and impatiently wait and see.

Overall, I enjoyed the Season 6 premiere of The Vampire Diaries, but here are a few things that I wasn’t so pleased with:

1. I’m not a fan of Liv and Luke Parker and I could do without them in this series. And I truly despise myself for writing that, because I’m essentially wishing that Penelope Mitchell and Chris Brochu be fired. So maybe they could be beneficial for the The Originals? And it’s also difficult to write because we are getting all kinds of signs that Tyler and Liv might hook up. This potential coupling is prime for my ultimate love of witches and werewolves, but I can’t get with it. So supernatural fiction powers that be, please forgive my disgust of Liv and Luke.

2. It appears that Stefan and Caroline have fallen off the BFF’s trajectory. Stefan hasn’t talked to Caroline all summer, he won’t return her calls, he won’t send word of where is and what he is doing to her through others, he is not communicating with her and this all hurts my heart.

3. Tyler appears to be regressing back to the douche-bag he was during Season 1. He has the werewolf gene and all the aggression is there and he isn’t handling it well. And I don’t want to see that.

4. And the thing that displeased me the most was I had to wait 58 minutes to see Bonnie in the flesh. We got a glimpse of her in a picture in the middle of the episode, but it wasn’t enough.

However, this brings me to the thing I loved the most about the episode – the final scene.

Seeing, Damon making pancakes and bringing food over to Bonnie and them sharing a newspaper pointed all signs to them being in marital bliss. I know that’s probably not the case, but I’m going to keep that thought in my head until it’s crushed. *Living in my “BAMON” feels*

That’s my take on The Vampire Diaries Season 6 (Episode 1: I’ll Remember) premiere. See you all next week.
